School Outreach

The school outreach program seeks to provide the tools, trainings, and experiences to foster the next generation of aquatic scientists and empower the next generation of ocean stewards.

Community Outreach

The community outreach program seeks to work with communities most effected by climate change. By growing local capacity in conservation, we hope to bridge the gap between historical local knowledge and science to build a climate resilient Gambia.

ASLO GLOBAL OUTREACH INITIATIVE

December 2019 - June 2021

Project: Aquatic Sciences Virtual Conference in West Africa

PI: Maiyai Taal Hocheimy

The Aquatic Sciences Virtual Conference 2021 was held in The Gambia and hosted 25 aquatic scientists and students to foster a more diverse and globally inclusive scientific community for the ASLO (Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography) 2021 summer meeting. The purpose of the ASLO virtual conference was to increase public awareness about aquatic resources and research and provides opportunities to connect African researchers with one another and to the global L&O community. This project can be the blueprint to launch similar virtual conferences in West Africa to promote research and education and to provide a platform to network the scientists regionally and globally.
